Kiyoshi Benefit Fund

Last week, just a few miles from where I live, 3 Akitas went missing when the dogs escaped following a car crash on the Interstate. With relentless searching by their family & volunteers from surrounding neighborhoods, all 3 were found within a few days. Two of the dogs were OK. One dog, Kiyoshi, was hit by a car last Wednesday before searchers could grab him.

Kiyoshi is on anti-seizure medication, steroids and antacids. His broken jaw will be in a muzzle sling for the next six to eight weeks. He was also blinded by a skull fracture, but veterinarians believe that he has a chance to regain his sight after the swelling subsides.

The dog's owner, Jillian Coglan, is also recovering from the crash. After finding her three missing dogs, she finally reported to a doctor on Friday to find she had a grade two concussion, whiplash and a partially separated shoulder.

Jill has setup a benefit fund to pay for Kiyoshi's treatment. If you'd like to contribute you can send donations to:

Hills Bank
131 Main Street
Hills, IA 52235

Checks can be made out to "Coglan" with the Kiyoshi Benefit Fund written on the memo line. She and Kiyoshi would be returning to the Ames Small Animal Clinic several times in the coming weeks for treatments.

New Dog Art - American Eskimo

Here's Sweety, a snow white American Eskimo Dog, who according to her owners is as sweet as her name. Sweety's portrait is 30" x 40" (big!).I hung it on the wall briefly... Vegas was a bit more concerned about what was going on outdoors then the giant white Eskie in his living room.

Licker License

New favorite treat in the WOOF Factory Dog House: Dog-Zerts!

Similar to Frosty Paws, Dog-Zert's are sold in packs of 4 by Schwan's. (Schwan's is company with the ice cream toting humans who bring the icy goodness right to your door.) Schwan's doesn't come to our door, atleast not yet... so the pups were lucky to get the yummy goodness as a totally pawsome gift from our friend Oliver's hu-mom.
Here's how it went down:
Lena attempted to hi-jack the beef flavored goodness immediately.Which caused Takoda to put on her angry face & show her pearly whites.

Then the tongue action began. Here's Vegas... on his way to brain freeze.
Takoda lickin' it.
Takoda gives this treat a 10!
Lena wonders why it's not as tasty upside down.
These treats were so tasty, everypup found their own private spot to lick it. Vegas chose the corner of the deck, while Lena went to the far side of the yard and Loki went in the house and downstairs.
Catori, aka "The Instigator", ate in his crate with the door shut. This was what we call a "high value" treat, and food fights are no fun at all.
Loki checks the table for the possibility of just one more lick.
Vegas chews the wrapper like bubble gum.
Lena gathered up all the empty containers (note the one safely tucked under her arm). She also paid no attention to the box directions, which stated that containers should not be eaten. The containers were promptly removed, and the party was over.
